High School Try Lax Camp

The Clackamas-Nelson high school lacrosse team is looking to grow our program, providing you with the perfect opportunity to try out a new sport! We understand that just showing up to the first day of team practice can be intimidating. We want you on our team, so we are going to make it as easy as possible. We are offering two sessions of introductory lacrosse camp for new players. Our no-contact camp will cover the basics of the game as well as beginning stick skills such as passing, throwing and cradling. The camp will be run by our high school coaching staff so that you have the opportunity to get to know them.

We know that one of the biggest hurdles for beginning lacrosse players is having to purchase equipment before knowing if you really like the sport. To help with this, the high school will provide all necessary equipment for the camp. This means spots will be limited so sign up today. We already have several first-time players joining us, so you won't be alone. Come find out what you are missing. Lacrosse is a fast-paced, athletic, team-centric game that is catching fire everywhere, don't miss out!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When is the lacrosse season?

The lacrosse season runs from March through mid-May. The team begins practicing in January three times per week. Once the season begins the team will play 1-2 games per week in addition to regular practice.

Where does the team practice?

Home games and practices are held at both Clackamas and Adrienne C. Nelson High School. During the season the team will play away games at surrounding high schools.

Is lacrosse hard to learn?

Stick skills become a major asset or liability for lacrosse players. Handling the stick while running and getting comfortable and adept at catching, passing and shooting the ball will require many hours of practice and drills outside of team play. Players can use a tennis ball against a wall to start, doing various drills to learn techniques for handling their stick, but they won’t improve without committing to practicing a lot. It takes persistence to excel at anything and lacrosse is certainly no exception.

Is boys lacrosse a dangerous sport?

Boys lacrosse is a fast-paced and physically demanding sport that requires players to run, jump and dodge. Players get hit by sticks and balls, and get body checked by other players so there are risks involved. The use of protective gear and adherence to the rules helps reduce injuries. Lacrosse actually has a lower injury rate than football, basketball and soccer.

Will my player make the team?

Lacrosse is a no-cut sport. We want everyone to experience the thrill of this fun, fast-paced sport. All it takes to make the team is a desire to work hard and a willingness to respect the coach and support your teammates.
